Directing the ASEAN School Games - Behind the scenes (Preparations)

It has been a crazy busy period for me these few weeks, with many projects going on at the same time, it is really hard to find time to be in front of my computer. Thus all my blog entries are post-dated.

ASEAN School Games Opening Ceremony

After numerous meetings and discussions, finally many of our ideas are slowly materializing. 27th July, we headed down to Max Pavilion to make sure the equipments we required are set in place.

I had a great time working together with Dan on the ASEAN School Games opening ceremony. This project is a great opportunity for us to work on many of our great ideas, and what better canvas to showcase it than a huge stage at Max Pavilion, for a show that is broadcasted to the whole of ASEAN :-)

Zul was there to help with during the initial stage. We wanted to fly our lead performer during the finale of our act, and this requires quite a bit of technical know-how and specialized equipments. The guys at UnUsUal Productions has been a great help!

This is (honestly) an unintentional melodrama shot of us. And yes, that is Danny Koh in the picture!

Initially we casted Danny Koh as the lead performer in our item, but due to changes in rehearsal schedule and Danny's prior show commitments, Danny wasn't able to be part of this project. Nevertheless, a big thank you to Danny for his help :-)

After sorting out all the technical aspects of our show, we headed down to the costume shop to check on our costumes and made measurements for Danny's costume.

Contemporary yet with an Asian touch, all our costumes are designed by Dan himself! :-)

ASEAN School Games Opening Ceremony Rehearsals Part II

More updates on the show that I'm directing "ASEAN ONE!" The finale act of the ASEAN School Games Opening Ceremony  2011 in Singapore!

It has been a long, busy week and we had finally made much progress! Thanks to all the hard work and dedication from all our students!!

Thanks to Dan & Gordon , working hard putting everything together!!

It has been hard work for all the performers, I can see the pain and tiredness from their eyes, many MANY hours of hard work and physically taxing labour, yet they had pulled through and created an amazing show, waiting to be showcased to the WHOLE WORLD!!

 

As of all my shows, you can expect lots of special effects... and LEDS!!

 These are just the very small tip of the iceberg, lots more special effects are in this item, look out for it at the telecast of the opening ceremony!

Mr. Low Ee Chiang, an experienced and well-respected choreographer, helped us with some of our ideas. Mr. Low had choreographed items in almost all the major events in Singapore! National Day Parades, Chingay Parades, Youth Olympic opening etc. You name, he's done it!

It was indeed tough and physically taxing, but the students persevered and did a great job!

ASEAN School Games Opening Ceremony Rehearsals

I had the honor to direct the finale act of the upcoming ASEAN School Game 2011 Opening Ceremony, along with my best buddy, the extremely talented choreographer Dan Kwoh!

Rehearsals for our item had started and will be going in full-force this coming week!

Dan has been working hard choreographing the dance moves, he started with a few high-intensity dance classes to condition the girls for the upcoming ideas we had.

Our extremely talented girls are specially auditioned and carefully selected from various schools!

One of our props made by P'ART 1 DESIGN! Lots of love and thanks for rushing the props for us! 

They worked late to rush the props for us and I collected the props at 4am! They are really extremely competent and dedicated craftsmen! Go to their website to check out some of the coolest props they've made!
